What a pre-purchase inspection is

We inspect used cars before you buy them. The job is for people who have found a car and want a mechanic to check it before they hand over money. It is not a roadworthy certificate.

Arranging the inspection

Ring us before you commit to the car. We will tell you over the phone what the inspection covers and how to arrange it with the seller. You can bring the car to us, or ask the seller to drop it in during business hours.

What we check

We check the mechanical condition of the car and talk through what we find. If you have noticed a smell, a noise, a leak or a warning light, tell us. We can focus the time on the things you are worried about.

What it is not

A roadworthy is a safety check for transferring rego. A pre-purchase inspection is a broader look at the condition of the car so you know what you are buying. If the car fails or nearly fails the roadworthy items, we can tell you what that means for the purchase.

After the inspection

After the inspection we talk through what we found. We give you a straight answer on what needs work now, what can wait and what the car is likely to need soon.

Moving ahead

If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, we can also arrange the roadworthy inspection and repairs on site. That keeps the next step in the same workshop.
